This was a quick little site to sell an amazing product – Ultra Ever Dry is a coating that is some sort of special nanotechnology that completely repels water, to where it doesn’t even contact the surface. The website design is an ecommerce store to sell this online. Take a look! www.ultraeverdrystore.com.
This was a fun side project – a website for a local subgroup of the Glenwood Chamber called the Roaring Fork Young Professionals. I designed a colorful, modern website to make an easy way to register for upcoming events, view past events and see what the Young Professionals are all about. Also to note with this site: I built it to be responsive and be easy to use on mobile devices – us young people like that.
Also as ongoing work with the Young Professionals (I am now the technology person), I have built a back-end that includes member and event management. This is based on a platform that I previously built that includes sorting and search functions.

So for fellow locals, register and join us for the next event! www.roaringforkyoungprofessionals.com
Winter 2012 | Family Portrait Photography in Snowmass, Colorado
We did a family portrait session prior to Christmas on location at the family’s home in Snowmass. Such a beautiful home and family. We captured some fun moments of the adorable Jude inside the home using the Christmas tree as the backdrop then we moved outside to capture a variety of family photographs. Family portrait photography is slowly becoming a favorite of mine- love all the possibilities.

Thank you Cece and David for hiring us to capture your family photographs! We enjoyed our wintery session and look forward to next time!

Thank you Yesenia & Jorge for having us take your family photographs- we had such a great time!
Fall 2012 | Portrait Photography Glenwood Springs
A recent photo shoot involved getting some professional head-shots of Dusty in downtown Glenwood Springs. The time of day for this mini portrait session provided nice lighting and the location of the downtown buildings made for great backdrops- take a look at our favorites below.

Thanks for having us take your head-shots Dusty!
“The Olivia Act, named after one of the children killed in the tragedy that took place in Newton, Connecticut, was started by a photographer who wishes to remain anonymous. Olivia’s family had family pictures taken a short time before she was killed. Those pictures are precious and now priceless to them. Upon hearing about this, this photographer was moved to give away a 30 minute family photo session and has challenged other photographers to do the same. We go about our daily lives and sometimes we don’t take the time or have the resources to have family photos taken.”
We are honored to announce we will be participating in The Olivia Act. Starting today, we will take nominations from our friends of families who would benefit from a completely free portrait session in the Roaring Fork Valley (including a disc of digital negatives and 3-8×10 prints) to capture a story of their life to hold onto and cherish forever. Please email us at katrina@thesmithsdesign.com with your nomination’s name, their contact information and a brief story as to why you want to nominate that person/family. On January 14th we will choose the recipient of this gift.
Thank you in advance for all who participate in this wonderful act and a big thanks to those who started this.
Remember each day is precious and enjoy.
This website brought me back to the beginning – of my web design career. I first built a website for the North American distributor of Zaugg machines back in 2005. Zaugg is a Swiss company that builds the special machine that designs winter half pipes, as well as snow blowers and a wide range of other products.
With the leaps and bounds made in the last few years both in my own experience as well as the general modern design movement and onset of HTML5, I started from scratch and re-built zauggamerica.com to be far more attractive, easy to use, SEO optimized, and provide better marketing techniques to gain sales leads.
This was one of the very first websites I designed, and it showed. The site had relatively little content, overuse of basic design elements such as Photoshop’s bevel & emboss effect, and flash elements for photo slideshows, etc., and typical overused fonts such as Copperplate Gothic. At the time, this was pretty standard across the internet though.

After growing with my experience, I made a re-design relatively quickly (for a website). The new version had far more content, a service/maintenance area, less reliance on flash elements and better navigation. By good design and marketing standards, it still was far from where it should be though. The layout was very basic and designed for viewing on small screens (which was common in 2007).

The new version now is designed to view both on a mobile device as well as large computer screens, has no flash elements but instead html5 and css3, and better content all around. I finally feel I have a website that can properly showcase Zaugg’s precision engineering.
Fall 2012 | Senior Portrait Photographs in Glenwood Springs, CO
Meet Kaylee, a high school senior and such a beautiful young lady. She had so many fun ideas for her senior portrait session and I absolutely loved her lace dress that she showed up in. Take a peek at a few of the favorites!

Thank you Kaylee for having me take your senior portraits!
Fall 2012 | Wedding Photographs at Dinkle Lake
Aimee and Graham’s wedding fell on a stunning fall day. They had an intimate ceremony at Dinkle Lake near Carbondale, Colorado. Due to the lake being so low, they decided to take advantage of the gorgeous fall color and made that the backdrop for their wedding ceremony. This couple is quite adorable and I enjoyed capturing their honest love. Such a perfect day!

Thank you so much Aimee and Graham for hiring me to be your wedding photographer!
